Our daughter LOVES these seaweed chips!
I love them because they are packed with nutrients. However at over a $1 for a single serve packet they can be unsustainable for the budget, and also the planet.
Half of all plastic produced is designed to be used only once — and then thrown away ~ UN Environment
Every 5g packet of seaweed chips comes wrapped in an abhorrent amount of plastic, contributing to the growing global issue of climate change.
Researchers estimate that more than 8.3 billion tonnes of plastic has been produced since the early 1950s. About 60% of that plastic has ended up in either a landfill or the natural environment ~ UN Environment
And so to play my part in reducing waste I’m sharing this super simple seaweed chip recipe.
Seaweed contains important vitamins and minerals for thyroid function, metabolism, immune health and energy production, including Vitamins A, B, C, E, K and iron, iodine and magnesium.
Making these beauties at home is beyond easy simple! You can do it in less than 10 minutes but make sure you watch them in the oven as they can burn quickly!
What you'll need:
Ingredients:
1 pack of nori sheets
1 moisture absorber (use the one from the nori packet)
3 tbsp of coconut oil, melted
Himalayan sea salt
Method:
Preheat a fan forced oven to 180℃/ 356℉.
Place 1 nori sheet onto an unlined baking tray and brush the shiny side with the coconut oil ensuring to cover the whole sheet. Sprinkle with Himalayan sea salt and place another sheet, rough side down on top. Repeat with three more sheets (to make a stack of three to four sheets). I fit 2 stacks side by side on each baking tray with a little overlap to save on time.
Bake for 3-5 minutes until crispy. You will need to keep an eye on them to prevent them from burning. Depending on your oven you may need a little more time.
Cut the sheets into 6 pieces per sheet with a pair of scissors. Then pry apart into single sheets.
Lay them on a drying rack until crispy.
Storage.
These are best stored in an airtight container. To maintain the crispness and avoid them going soggy, add the moisture absorber from the packet of nori into the container.
